Press Release

Local volunteer honoured

Honouring the commitment and dedication of snowmobile trail volunteers within the Rainbow Country Snowmobile Association for the 2005 – 2006 season, Paul Marcon (right) of the world-renowned “Rock’n’Roll Snow Patrol” (Partners:  Q92, White Gold Car Wash, Trailers-R-Us, Rogers Wireless, Ski Doo, Algonquin Equipment, Auto Trader) and WOODY’S Traction Products along with Dennis Lendrum (left) of the Rainbow Country Snowmobile Association present this year’s recipient, Tim Burk (center) of Burk’s Shell in Massey, with a certificate for a full set of quality WOODY’S studs and carbide runners.

Continuously promoting safety on the trails, the “Rock’n’Roll Snow Patrol” rides annually with WOODY’S products.  Paul Marcon states, “I would never feel comfortable nor safe riding any snowmobile without superior traction.  It is anticipated that this well-earned gift will add another safe snowmobiler to our trails.  I am quite pleased of the fact that WOODY’S, through Auto Trader, provides us with these great products.  I have put over 60,000 trail miles on WOODY’S carbide studs and runners.  This is a fact that I am quite proud of!

For this past season, both Dennis Lendrum and I decided that a great way to reward and honour our trail volunteers, those people who build and maintain our world-class trails, would be to present a deserving someone with this important gift.  Tim’s name was drawn from a pool of valued volunteers.  This is a promotion that we hope can grow within other club organizations over the next few years.”

Dennis and Wendy Lendrum

Dennis has served not only as President of Espanola and District Snowmobile Club; he is Volunteer General Manager of Rainbow Country Snowmobile Association overseeing the trail and safety operations of all five-member clubs of RCSA. Dennis has also served as Operations Director for District 12. Dennis has dedicated an incredible amount of time and effort for the enjoyment and benefit of all snowmobilers. Dennis takes pride in providing excellence in trails and grooming activities, and is a driving force for raising funds for Easter Seals Snowarama.

Dennis provides support to all member clubs in areas such as funding, landowner issues, insurance incident reporting, signage training, trail reports, promotion, legal issues, web ads and trail signs, and pretty much anything he can do to help in any way possible.

Dennis is the person we all turn to when we need advice and encouragement, and Dennis is always the first one to give recognition and his thanks to his fellow volunteers and workers. Dennis’ contributions to snowmobiling are endless, and his devotion to snowmobiling is an inspiration to us all.

If it were not for the dedication and support of people like Dennis there would not be a trail system to enjoy. It is only through the support and encouragement of his wife Wendy that Dennis has been able to contribute so much to us all.

Here is a perfect example of a Dedicated Volunteer

Betty Heis has been the driving force that got the Rainbow Country Snowmobile Association formed, which we believe has benefited all 5 clubs dramatically.

She has brought all the clubs up to the point of meeting the OFSC/Insurance requirements in financial reporting and all other paper work. (Huge Task)

When it comes to applying for funding, Betty makes sure all the “t”s are crossed and all the “i” s are dotted so that we (RCSA) do get the much needed funding, to help make snowmobiling Safe and Fun in our area.

I keep telling her, she can’t retire as the Volunteer Sec/Trea of RCSA for at least 15 yrs.

Over the past several years Betty has been a large part of the factor that contributed to the Manitoulin Snowdusters being awarded the OFSC Club of the Year from the entire province. 2001 What an achievement.

At the OFSC AGM Betty & Doug were awarded the District 12 Family Achievement of the year Award 2004.

You will see Betty & Doug out on the trails with their Trail Patrol Vests on, doing what is most important to the Snowmobile industry (promoting Safe OFSC Trail Riding)

To the recognition of all the long hard hours that Betty has so generously donated to organized snowmobiling, The Ontario Trivia Game Snowmobilers Edition has added a couple of questions about her in the game.

1) Betty Heis of the Manitoulin Snowdusters is often referred to by what name?

a) Tinkerbell. b) Mrs. Manitoulin Snow Dusters. c) Treasurer and Warden.

d) or all of the above.

2) The Manitoulin Snow Dusters have benefited greatly from the perseverance, dedication and spunk of their Treasurer, Betty “Tinkerbell” Heis. In the 2002-2003 season, how many hours did Betty volunteer for her club, association and district?

a) 300 hours b) 400 hours c) 500 hours d) 600 hours

Check out the game for the correct answers.

Pease stop her and say hi along with a huge Thank you, she deserves every bit of it !!!!!
